CAIRO – 25 October 2021: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Ghanem stated Sunday in a phone-in that modern irrigation systems (drip irrigation) have been introduced in one million feddans (one feddans equals 4,500 square meters).

Ghanem added that the ministry targets accomplishing modern irrigation systems in four million feddans in three years at a budget of LE40 billion ($250 million), substituting flooding irrigation.

The ministry had declared in July the completion of the lining of 2,138 kilometers of irrigation canals in 20 governorates.

The ministry is targeting to line 7,790 kilometers of canals for the first phase that is planned to end by 2022 and worth LE18 billion (more than $1,14 billion).
