CAIRO – 5 October 2021: Military Spokesperson for Egyptian Armed Forces, Staff of War Colonel Gharib Abdel Hafiz, congratulated the Egyptian people on the 48th anniversary of the glorious 6th of October Victory.

He said the Egyptian military is currently leading another war, referring to the war against terrorism “that will be teached in the military literature for years to come.”

"The 6th of October war in 1973, according to the strategic directive issued by the late President Muhammad Anwar al-Sadat, may God have mercy on him, was a miraculous victory,” he said in TV statements on Monday.

The military spokesperson went on explaining that the 6th of October war is still being studied at military schools around the world.

“There is also another battle led by the armed forces, which will be studied in military literature for years to come; it is the war on terrorism, which is considered a war of existence for the homeland and a new crossing to preserve the Egyptian national security,” he added.

He further said, “The truth is that the General Command of the Armed Forces, in planning its battle to combat terrorism, has always taken into account all considerations and challenges, including a very important point, which is the way of carrying out its tasks in conjunction with restoring normal life to the villages adjacent to the operations.”

The military spokesman continued, "There was also another challenge, which was to prevent terrorist elements from disrupting development projects in Sinai, and this was a main goal that terrorist elements sought with any development and service project they could reach, but the armed forces during the last period achieved their full goals of restoring stability, providing security for our people in the Sinai, and restoring life to normal, which is tangible and clear, in addition to destroying the infrastructure of terrorism, including shelters, warehouses, and others, eliminating the main leaders of the terrorist elements and arresting many suspects."

The spokesperson also stressed that the armed forces are continuing their presence to pursue the remnants of terrorist elements before they regain their activity, while cutting off any supply routes to them, noting that the armed forces have implemented 35 roads with a total of 135 km, to facilitate movement within Sinai, in addition to tunnel projects, 34 water plants, including 22 desalination plants in Sinai, equivalent to 65 percent of the total projects, with a total cost of L.E. 9 billion.

With regard to cooperation with other countries in the military fields, the spokesperson indicated that the Egyptian armed forces carried out 46 joint exercises during 2020 and 2021, ensuring that “this shows the keenness of friendly and brotherly countries to participate and attend such exercises on the one hand, and also the confidence of these countries in the Egyptian Armed Forces taking preventive measures against the Corona pandemic.”
