President Sisi directs establishing ‘city of justice’ in the new administrative capital

CAIRO – 18 August 2021: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed, Wednesday establishing the City of Justice in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) in the vicinity of the government district, the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said that the move is meant to achieve integration among symbols of the main authorities in the state; executive, legislative and judicial authorities within one single geographic range entrenching pillars of the New Republic with all its components, according to Radi.

The justice city will include a central complex for courts, a center for studies, and various other service facilities.

The New Administrative Capital is located in the area between the Cairo-Suez and Cairo-Ain Sokhna roads, east of the regional ring road. This is roughly 60 km from the cities of Suez and Ain Sokhna.

Studies highlighted that the New Administrative City aims to achieve a boom in providing services to citizens, who need the establishment of lots of new cities to accommodate the overpopulation, with the population rate expected to hit 160 million by the year 2050.

The studies also referred to a study by the World Bank in 2014, which indicated that about LE 47 billion is wasted annually in Cairo metropolitan areas due to traffic congestion.

In January, officials announced that 90 percent of the governmental neighborhood were completed. The first phase of the New Capital is about developing 40,000 feddans to house two million citizens. Launched in 2017, that phase has been accomplished by more than 70 percent, and is planned to be completed in 2-3 years.

In June, the completion of the construction of the Iconic Tower was announced so as only finishing works are still under progress. The Iconic Tower, which is the tallest in Africa given its height of 385 meters, is surrounded by 20 others towers. The building will consist of offices, residential units, and a hotel, which occupies the highest 30 floors.
