Egypt reports 609 new coronavirus cases, 37 deaths in 24 hours

CAIRO - 16 June 2020: The Health Ministry said Tuesday that 609 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country to 274,404.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 37 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 15,691.



As many as 911 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 202,650 so far, the spokesman said. 

 

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population Khaled Megahed stated Tuesday that Egypt will receive within days 1.9 million AstraZeneca doses through Covax, and one million Sinopharm doses within a week.

 

It is noted that Egypt is getting 40 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine through Covax. Until present, the country got 2.2 million doses of those in addition to two million Sinopharm doses within a deal with China comprising 20 million doses.

 

Furthermore, Egypt will produce 40 million doses annually of Sinovac and Sputnic V vaccines. Production of the former will begin in a few days as 1,400 liters of raw material have been delivered by China to produce 2,250,000 doses as a first phase. The second consists of five million doses.

 

The ministry also stated that 10 million Sputnic V doses will be delivered to Egypt soon.
