CAIRO – 12 June 2021: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has said judicial institutions are key in counterterrorism and developing legal frameworks to deal with extremism.

On Saturday, Sisi received heads of African constitutional courts in the fifth version of the Conference for the African and Supreme Courts organized by the Egyptian Constitutional Court.

The Egyptian president previewed Egypt’s vision in the past five years to combat extremism and its devastating impact on a state’s capabilities. He also said facing that challenge should not be limited to the security, religious, and ideological aspects, but should rather extend to an upgrade to the infrastructure, the economy, and social welfare.

The role of law and judiciary should also be empowered to effectively counter the threat, he added.

About 40 African states participate in the conference, where some constitutional court heads are joining virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The current stage needs effective judicial coordination to build a unified and homogenous legislative environment capable of dealing with international challenges facing the formulation of a common future for the continent, Sisi also said.

The meeting with the African judges witnessed an open dialogue, where Sisi said Egypt is ready to assist African nations that suffer from terrorism  and relay its experience to them.
