CAIRO – 10 June 2021: Expectations of a fourth COVID wave in September “could not be confirmed; however, everything is possible,” Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Population for Preventive Medicine Mohamed Abdel Fattah said.

“No one can be sure what will happen the next day,” he said, adding that the question of whether there will be a fourth Coronavirus wave or not depends on the citizens’ abiding by the state’s instructions and precautionary measures as it reduce infection rates, in addition to vaccination.

Earlier this month, a member of the Scientific Committee to combat Coronavirus at the Ministry of Health Mohamed el-Nady said that Egypt has passed the peak of the third COVID-19 wave, as the infection rate began to decrease by 20 percent.

In statements to DMC TV channel, El-Nady explained that the early concern about the situation “bore fruit, especially with this wave being more severe than the previous ones.”

El-Nady assured that there is no efficient treatment thus far for COVID-19; however there are some medications and protocols that help in recovery stage.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Population for Preventive Medicine continued saying that it is expected to complete the vaccination of 40 million citizens within the next few months, and that the work of the "Mega Center" for vaccinations will be expanded, and that vaccinations for different groups will be expanded, such as airport workers, national projects, tourism and major industrial centers.

“We aim to vaccinate at least 70 percent of citizens,” he said, adding that  a total of 7 million citizens have registered on online website for vaccination, and up to 3 million citizens have been vaccinated so far, stressing that vaccinations are 100 percent free for Egyptians and foreigners.

There are 179 international vaccination centers across Egypt that provide the Coronavirus vaccine for travelers.

The Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) signed with Sinovac in April two agreements that allow Egypt to locally manufacture the vaccine.

Egypt is expected to produce the first batch of Sinovac doses by June 15, said Zayed on Sunday.
