WRAP-UP: Egypt’s United Media Services (UMS) Company makes change to structure, reveals new development plan

CAIRO – 29 May 2021: The United Media Services (UMS) group made a change to its administrative structure, announcing a new board of directors, with an aim of developing the company’s future plans.

 

In a press conference held in Cairo on Saturday afternoon to announce its achievements over the past five years and the new development plan for the media and drama fields, the group named former Chief Executive Officer of the Arab African International Bank Hassan Abdullah as the new chairman of the UMS, succeeding businessman and media producer Tamer Morsi.

“The UMS will expand its work in the marketplace by allowing collaborations with more producers,” the group said, adding “more qualified cadres with high experience in the financial markets will be hired.”

 

The UMS highlighted the role of corporate governance as it a key factor that has been adopted to enhance the financial and organizational success of any company.

 

“Corporate governance is a great indication to what has been achieved by the company in terms of good management, transparency, accountability, besides applying the anti-corruption measures,” the UMS said in the conference.

 

“Corporate governance aims at maximizing long-term benefits for the shareholders, taking into account the interests of different parties,” the group added.

 

 

UMS’ annual awards for drama

 

The group announced annual competitions for the best TV drama script, the best digital platform, and the best drama content for children.

 

“The annual award of the best T.V. drama script has been named after the prominent Egyptian screenwriter Saleh Morsi,” it announced, adding that the award of the best drama scriptwriting for children has been named after Fadela Tawfiq, the prominent Egyptian Radio Presenter " aka Abla Fadela" for children’s programs.

 

Also, the UMS announced an award for the best novel that reflects the issues of the Egyptian society, adding that this year award was named after late veteran Egyptian scriptwriter Wahid Hamed.

 

As for the award for the best story for children, it has been named after great writer Neam El Baz.

 

 

Regional news channel

 

The UMS also revealed that it is set to create new regional partnerships as part of its new development plan. The new regional news channel targets Egyptians, Arabs, and all Arabic speakers following up through Nile Sat coverage, as well as Arabic speakers in Europe, U.S., Canada, and Australia who follow up on Egypt news via IPTV services.

 

"The aim of the channel is to propose Egypt’s vision not only for discussion but also opening the door for analysis and criticism," it said.

 

“The new regional channel will be able to address Arab audience’s interests on the right time, given that it is aimed to be the main source of the latest news in Egypt and the region,” the group added.

 

UMS also announced establishing a fund to support workers and practitioners in the media profession, as part of the group’s keenness to maximize investment in human resources.

 

On the EGX

 

The group declared that it will offer from 20 to 30 percent of its shares on the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX), as part of its future plans to develop the media content.

 

The group clarified that the offering will help in providing sustainable liquidity to increase its capital and expansion.

 

According to the press conference, the group will end its offering plan and attracting investors in 2024.
