Egypt reports 1,125 new coronavirus cases, 65 fatalities in 24 hours

CAIRO - 8 May 2020: The Health Ministry said late Friday that 1,125 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 235,140.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 65 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 13,779.

As many as 811 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 175,928 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt will manufacture up to 60 million doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine by next month according to Head of the Central Department of Preventive Medicine at the Ministry of Health.

He added that huge number of vaccination centers have been launched all around the country to provide the vaccine to all Egyptians.

He added that the vaccinations rate has increased during the past days, in conjunction with the third wave of COVID-19 in Egypt which caused a rising in the number of daily infections of the virus.
