Egypt reports 1,090 new coronavirus cases, 60 fatalities in 24 hours

CAIRO - 5 May 2020: The Health Ministry said late Tuesday that 1,090 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 231,803.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 60 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 13,591.

As many as 567 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 173,341 so far, the spokesman said.

The number of centers providing the coronavirus vaccine across Egypt has increased to 360, head of the central administration for preventive affairs at Egypt's Ministry of Health Mohamed Abdel Fattah told Egypt Today.

This includes a center in the Fair Zone, which will be soon inaugurated. This center is designed to have the capacity to vaccinate 10,000 people per day, Abdel Fattah said.

So far, Egypt has reported 231,803 coronavirus cases and 13,591 related deaths.

So, far 2 million people have registered to receive the coronavirus vaccine, including 900,000 who have been already vaccinated, Abdel Fattah said.
