CAIRO - 25 April 2020: During his meeting with Health Minister Hala Zayed, Presidential Adviser for Health Affairs Mohamed Awad Tageldin and a number of other senior officials, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed to proceed with efforts to get the largest amount of coronavirus vaccines in the coming period.


All funds necessary for the importation of Covid-19 vaccines have been allocated, he added

Egypt will receive 900,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine soon, Zayed said.

The senior officials have also agreed to expeditiously complete the contracting procedures for the purchase of 10 million doses of the Russian "Sputnik V" vaccine.

Efforts are underway to contract the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, Tageldin said.

It should be noted that that 912 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 221,570.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 39 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 12,998.

As many as 433 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 166,457 so far, the spokesman said.
