Egypt’s daily COVID-19 report: 884 new cases, 45 deaths in past 24 hours

CAIRO – 24 April 2021: Egypt recorded, Friday 884 new coronavirus cases during the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. Other 45 people died.

The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases since the outbreak in Egypt hit 220,658, and the total deaths hit 12,959, according to the statement.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said that 676 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 166,024 so far.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign in January, starting with the medical teams at quarantine hospitals, for being on top of priority groups in terms of vaccination.

The number of Egyptians who have been vaccinated against coronavirus in Egypt reached 525,000 citizens according to head of the preventive medicine sector at the Ministry of Health Alaa Eid.
 
Egypt has received Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccine doses. As on 1 April, Egypt received a shipment comprising 854,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses, upping total number of the received vaccine to around 1.5 million doses.

The Ministry of Health said on Monday that the increase of coronavirus cases still manageable and not high.

The ministry added that Egypt is still at the beginning of the third wave, and there are measures to push to reduce the cases while providing full support to the governorates in which the infection rates have recently increased.

The Ministry noted that Upper Egypt governorates have the highest infection rates; however, all means of support were given to hospitals and authorities to control the hike.
