Egypt reports 852 new coronavirus cases, 40 fatalities Monday

CAIRO  - 20 April 2020:  The Health Ministry said Monday that 852 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 217,186.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 40 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 12,778.

As many as 333 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 163,812 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt’s Ministry of Health said that the increase of coronavirus cases still manageable and not high.

The ministry added that Egypt is still at the beginning of the third wave, and there are measures to push to reduce the cases while providing full support to the governorates in which the infection rates have recently increased.

The Ministry noted that Upper Egypt governorates have the highest infection rates; however, all means of support were given to hospitals and authorities to control the hike.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said Monday, that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has instructed the government to help the medical sector to be always ready to deal with COVID-19 and provide additional appropriations needed for importing doses.
