CAIRO - 12 April 2020: On Sunday, Health Minister Hala Zayed called on residents of Upper Egypt governorates, especially the elderly and those with chronic diseases, to register online for Covid-19 vaccination.


During her inspection tour at Sohag Fever Hospital, accompanied by Governor Tarek el Feki, Zayed pointed to doubling of the number of vaccination centers in the governorates of Upper Egypt in the coming period, Health Ministry's Spokesman Khaled Megahed said.

Zayed noted that hospitals in Upper Egypt governorates received 200 beds recently to increase their accommodation capacity to receive more coronavirus patients.

The minister thanked the medical teams at Sohag hospitals for their efforts to offer better medical services for the patients during the pandemic.

Health Ministry announced in a Sunday statment that Egypt detected 812 new coronavirus cases  upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 210,489.

The statement added that 40 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 12,445.


As many as 445 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 159,499 so far.
