The ambassador underlined that Germany "has been for many decades one of the main destinations for Egyptian students and researchers," according to a statement released by the German embassy in Cairo on Tuesday.

The diplomat further emphasized that both countries have "deeply-rooted scientific relations and close cooperation," particularly through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

In 1960, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) opened its doors in Cairo to provide support for thousands of students and researchers from Germany and Egypt, the statement said, adding that the DAAD organized a virtual event on Tuesday to mark its successful contributions in Egypt for more than 60 years.

The DAAD branch in Cairo "offers a series of different educational scholarships for Egyptian students and researchers to travel and study in Germany," the statement added.
