CAIRO – 29 March 2021: Working hours at the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) will be doubled to allow awaiting ships to cross the canal after a week of closure, presidential advisor Mohab Mamish said Monday.

Mamish, aid for SCA and marine port projects, told Extra News channel that Ever Given will be fully examined to make sure it is sound and able to navigate its way.

All the while, Mamish said, the SCA will make way for other ships to cross. There are 321 vessels awaiting entry thus far.

For his part, Engineer Sabry Nasr, head of the Simulation Center at the SCA, said in a press conference that the center studies and researches maritime accidents minutely to avoid them or prevent their recurrence.

Nasr added that the simulation center helps predicting any potential disasters, such as pollution and oil leaks, and issues studies to constantly develop the Suez Canal.

He continued that a dredger named Mohamed Mamish, one of the biggest in the Middle East, will soon join the large fleet of dredgers of SCA, and dredging crews are being trained at the highest level to ensure efficiency, quality and swiftness.

The SCA has the best certificates in the field of maritime training, Nasr highlighted.
