Our Egyptian Paralympics team has proven a hit in 2009, so root for team Egypt and follow our team in London
August 27, 2012

The Olympics fever isn’t yet over, we still have our Paralympics team to root for starting Thursday, August 30.

The international sporting tradition that began in the 1960s Rome continues this year with the London 2012 Paralympics, the place where athletes from all around the world will compete, win, and inspire.

The opening ceremony for the 2012 Paralympics is set for August 29 in London, and the games will last for 12 days, ending with the extinguishing of the Olympic torch on September 9.

This year, Egypt’s Paralympics team is composed of 40 athletes; 15 competing in power-lifting, six in athletics, 11 in sitting volleyball, and eight in table tennis singles and teams competitions. The mission is also accompanied with a support staff of 15 members and a large base of volunteers to help the athletes settle in and give their best performance.

The good news is, our Paralympics team has done so much better in the 2008 round in Beijing than our Olympics team: They brought home four gold medals, four silvers, and four bronzes.

Hossam Mostafa, the head of the Paralympic mission, said in statements to Al- Masry Al-Youm newspaper that he is hoping the team will go home with 15 medals.
