Egyptian architect Hassan Fahmy pioneered culturally appropriate technology for building in Egypt by reintroducing the use of mud brick and traditional designs and floor plans for rural areas.
The Gezira Art Center is honoring his genius with Hassan Fathy: An Egyptian Ambition, running through January 21. The exhibition features 80 photographs, 80 of Fathy’s drawings and four original models.

Cairo in Spanish Eyes
In his photographic exhibition The Soul of the World, Spanish artist Miguel Angel Sanchez displays an expression of love for Cairo.
With portraits of musicians, painters, ministers, bloggers and activists, Sanchez tells a story with his photographs while is wife, Nuria Teson, Egypt’s correspondent for Spanish newspaper El Pais, accompanies each with a story of the subject.
The exhibition runs through January 9 at The Art Palace.
The Future of Science
Every year, FameLab, an international science communications competition, picks one Egyptian scientist between the ages of 18 and 35 to represent Egypt at the Cheltenham Science Festival in the United Kingdom.
Organized by the British Council and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Programme, local competitions are held across the country to select the 10 finalists.
