| WAITING FOR GANDHI Arafat is gone, and with him the myth that the Israelis have no partner with whom to shape a lasting peace. The questions now: Will the death of Abu Ammar give birth to a new peace process under a leader able to rein in the armed resistance? And will that leader find a willing partner on the Israeli side of the table? DONT FORGET PALESTINE. Reading through Yasser Arafats theatrical speeches and fiery statements, these three words, the entire text of his letter to Egyptian revolutionary leader and President Mohamed Naguib in 1952, were his best. Maybe it was the power inherent in their simplicity, written at a time far removed from the political circus act into which he was dragged in later years. Or perhaps its because they havent lost their relevance more than half a century later, serving to this day as words that should ring a bell with those who have lost sight of their cause by getting bogged down in factional politics.
