I’ve been wanting to pay a visit to Le Capitol so badly from all the tweets I’ve read recommending the place ― literally about a hundred of them ― for a while. But I didn’t go until my friends threw me a surprise party there last week for my first birthday in Ramadan, and let me tell you, I’m really glad they did.

As I entered Le Capitol, located on the rooftop of Novotel hotel in Zamalek, I was blown away by the décor. The place wasn’t adorned with the usual oriental decorations as most places are in Ramadan. It has a modern setting with blue lights and white comfy couches. But the most captivating feature about this place is its view. You can see all of Cairo from up there, and it has the most breathtaking view of the Nile as well.

That day had been really dry and hot, but because of Le Capitol’s elevated location, it was better here than the rest of Cairo.

So many of these Ramadan venues depend more on the interior design and pay little attention to the kitchen, but the buffet at Le Capitol topped our expectations. The buffet had the traditional sohour ― ranging from salads, stuffed vine leaves, mumbar and taameya to shish tawook to pastries. And it was good. The feteer I was served wasn’t their best work though, but the nice crowd and the friendliest waiters ever made up for it.

How much do you need to pay? Well, this is the best part actually. The LE 200 per person charge at the door covers everything: As many drinks as you want, your choice of several different shisha flavors in addition to endless refills from the buffet for the rest of the night. And it’s all inclusive, including the taxes and service. et
