Maadi British International School

ESTABLISHED IN 1995, Maadi British International School moved to purpose-built premises by Wadi Degla Sporting Club in September 2004. Following the English National Curriculum, MBIS is accredited by Worldwide Education Services (WES) and the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS), and is also inspected by registered inspectors on an annual basis. As a primary school MBIA only offers end of Key Stage 1 and 2 Tests. Key Stage 2 Tests are sent to UK for marking. Modern foreign languages (Arabic and French) are offered from Year 3 and there is an Arabic elective program. Currently, there are 241 pupils in Primary and 42 in the Early Year Centre. MBIS caters primarily to expatriate families living and working in Egypt and 96 percent of its pupils are expatriate.

In addition to the requisite library and auditorium, the school also boasts an ICT suite, a science discovery room, cookery room, creative zone and indoor heated swimming pool as well as grassed outdoor play areas. Extracurricular activities offered include horse-riding, tennis, computer, pottery, guitar, Girl Scout Brownies, Scottish dancing, story reading, drama, Taekwondo, salsa dancing, creative art and writing, jazz dancing, cricket, sculpture, knitting, cookery, football, henna, glass painting, science investigation, water polo and library activities. And that’s not all. MBIS constantly upgrades extracurricular activities to make them as fun and beneficial as possible for participating students. With so much competition between schools, particularly private British ones, MBIS sets itself above the rest with a number of commitments. Foremost is its high quality of teaching in a positive environment and a strict adherence to the English National Curriculum. The school sets itself high standards as well as high expectations. Fundamentally a community school, MBIS encourages community involvement including PTA and its ideal adult: pupil ratios help create a positive ethos. There is no deadline for applications, but they are dealt with on a first-come-first-served basis, then a waiting list is started. Current school fees are: Early Years: £2375 for Pre-F, £2969 for F1 with a registration fee of $125. Annual primary school fees are £5938 not including registration fees of £1979.
