Sufism, often called "Islamic mysticism," is an Islamic trend that has deep roots in Egypt, with almost 15 percent of the population being members of the Sufi community or participating in its practices. It is an approach to Islam that focuses on “self-purification and the attainment of spiritually advanced states” through a number of disciplines and practices, a study by Harvard Divinity School explained.

These practices include recitation of litanies, the celebration of the prophet’s birthday in a big traditional ceremony and festivals to celebrate members of the prophet’s family, which are conducted at their tombs and the mosques named after them.

<![CDATA[Heath Ministry supplies 25k anti-RH injections to ease shortage]]>Youm7.

After being tested in the National Organization for Drug and Control Research (NODCAR), the injections will be distributed to 69 outlets over six governorates over the next few days, the minister added. He said the ministry is trying to ease the medicine shortage.

Since 2014, Egypt has suffered the disappearance of hundreds of medicines in pharmacies nationwide due to the dollar crisis; the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) struggled to provide hard currency to other banks so importers, including pharmaceutical companies, could find the dollar liquidity required to buy their raw materials. However, the medicine shortage eased after the government floated the national currency last November.

In October 2016 Egyptian pharmacies suffered a severe shortage of anti-RH injections; gynecologists warned that the shortage would cause an increase in miscarriage rates. Pregnant woman should be injected with anti-RH immunoglobulin within 72 hours after giving birth. If a negative-RH woman is not injected with this antibody, her next pregnancy is likely to result in a miscarriage.

The price of one injection was estimated at around 400 EGP (US$ 23.831) before devaluating the currency; now, it is sold for 720 EGP (US$ 42.895), an employee at the state-owned company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA) told Egypt Today on Monday.

<![CDATA[Aswan citizens object to parking ban]]>reported on Sunday.

The governor’s decision has triggered a wave of anger and criticism among citizens who say the corniche area is one of the most important districts in Aswan and includes government offices, banks, medical labs and services that they need access to on a daily basis. They added that side streets are too narrow and overcrowded to allow parking.

Aswan Governor Magdy Fouad Hegazy justified the resolution, saying, “we are seeking to restore the civilized appearance of the city, since all foreign tourists and visitors visit the corniche and parking causes the accumulation of a huge amount of trash, in addition to causing security problems.”

Hegazy added that citizens have previously coped with this situation when President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi visited Aswan and life continued as normal, Al-Masry Al-Youm reported.

Hegazy said 400 car owners benefit from parking on the corniche, compared to 400,000 citizens he says will benefit from the parking ban.
