CAIRO - 23 June 2017: While Stonehenge is perhaps the most attended stone circle in the world, it is not the oldest. A formation of stones with striking similarity is located at the archeological site of Nabta Playa in South Western Desert, Nubia. Several years ago a group of American scientists from University of Colorado reported that the stone circle in Nabta has solar astronomical alignments and could date at least 1000 years older than Stonehenge. It is the only megalithic stone circle in Egypt.

Stonehenge in England is one of the most known megalithic stone circles in the world. The structure of several large stones, around 4 meters tall spreads on the green grassy fields and is visible from afar. The circle is believed to be constructed 3000 BC.

Thousands of visitors gather annually at the site on the summer and winter solstice to witness the sunrise.
