CAIRO – 23 January 2018: Cypriot Deputy Minister of Shipping Natasa Pilides said that the Cypriot government is seeking to increase cruise trips to Egypt in the coming period, according to a statement issued by Egypt’s Ministry of Transportation.

This came during Pilides' visit to Egypt on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Pilides hailed the bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus in several fields, referring to the depth of historical relations between the two countries, the statement reported.

She discussed with Minister of Transportation Hisham Arafat ways to promote cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus, especially in maritime transport.

Pilides also discussed with Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Chairman Mohab Mamesh investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone for Cypriot companies.

“During the coming period, a Cypriot delegation will visit the Suez Canal,” She added.

In 2017, Cyprus and Egypt started discussing an agreement to build a gas pipe from a Cypriot natural gas field to Egypt, which was followed by signing an agreement between the Egyptian minister of petroleum and Cyprus' Minister of Energy Lakkotrypis to transport gas from Cyprus to Egypt via a maritime pipeline.

Furthermore, Egypt signed a deal with Cyprus in 2013, allowing both states to explore oil and gas in their economic zones.
