CAIRO - 11 October 2018: Civil Aviation Minister Younis el-Masry said the experimental operation of Sphinx International Airport will take place on Monday.

The minister said the move was coordinated with EgyptAir.

The construction of the airport started in 2016 and the project site was inspected by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in February.

The airport, located 12 kilometers away from the Giza Plateau, was established on an area of 25,500 square meters.

The airport, constructed by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority in cooperation with the Egyptian Company for Industrial Investment, can accommodate more than 300 passengers per hour.

A group of hotels are planned to be established next to the airport to boost tourism.
