CAIRO – 21 July 2018: “The Ministry of Environment seeks to announce Sharm El-Sheikh City as an environmentally friendly green city in the coming period,” Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said Saturday in a statement issued by the ministry.

This comes during the minister’s participation with her counterpart, South Africa's Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) minister Edna Molewa, in the side sessions of the Biodiversity and Sustainable Development Conventions at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York.

During the session, the minister asserted that the African Environment Ministers support Egypt’s efforts to organize a conference on biological diversity at Sharm El-Sheikh next November as an international event representing the African continent.

“In coordination with the United Nations and Egypt, the ministry is working on recycling waste, using environmentally friendly technologies for renewable energies, and reusing water in Sharm El-Sheikh,” Foad added.

On the political side, the Ministry of Environment affirmed Egypt’s efforts to push sustainable development through a special initiative combining climate change with biodiversity and desertification, the statement reported.

With regards to tourism at Sharm El-Sheikh, on April 21, 2018, Andrea Vento Viaggi, the representative of one of the biggest Italian tourism companies, affirmed that Italian tourists will return to Sinai in Sharm El-Sheikh in flocks during the summer.

Italian tourists ranked second before 2010 for the highest amount of tourists from one country visiting Sharm El-Sheikh, and it is expected that Italy will once again be on top during the next period, as there is continuous coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and the governor of South Sinai, Viaggi said.

Italian tourism companies promote the sea-side Egyptian destination to attract more tourists, Andrea mentioned. The city of Sharm El-Sheikh is a prime destination for Italian tourists, in terms of elite hotel services, places of entertainment, weather, and prices.
