CAIRO – 4 May 2017: Egypt’s biggest 4th annual triathlon will be hosted in Sahl Hasheesh May 11-13.

Sahl Hasheesh quickly became one of Egypt’s best destinations for sports travel. It is a fabulous bay on the Red Sea coast, near Hurghada International Airport.

The first triathlon took place in 2014 in el-Gouna by a group of youths, supported by the Egyptian Triathlon Federation, as well as the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation. The second was hosted in Hurghada in 2015. Moreover, 2016 witnessed the biggest triathlon event ever in Egypt with 750 athletes from 30 different nationalities. This year, it will be hosted in Sahl Haseesh, involving participants of different ages and sports. It includes running, swimming and cycling.

The competition is comprised of five race categories of different distances and for different age groups. Firstly, the Super Sprint Triathlon which is a 300 m swim, 10 km bike, and 2.5 km run. Secondly, the Sprint Triathlon which is a 750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run. The Olympic Triathlon is another category involving a 1500 m swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run. As for the Aquathlon, it is a 750 m swim and a 5 km run. And finally, there will be a 1 km Kids’ Race.

All participants are categorized by age group and gender. Top finishers of each age group earn gold, silver, and bronze medals, while the top overall winners are honored on the podium, receiving their champions' medals and prizes.
