CAIRO - 14 January 2018: Egypt is one of 165 countries that will participate in the International Tourism Fair Fitur, at Feria de Madrid in Ifema, starting from January 17 to January 21.

King Philip VI of Spain and the Minister of Tourism Álvaro Nadal will attend the fair. For this year, India will be the partner country.

Many Arab countries will take part including Egypt, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Jordan, Qatar, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Syria and Algeria.

Fitur is a global organization for tourism professionals and conducts the leading trade fair for markets across the world.

In 2017, Fitur beat the participation record with 9,893 exhibiting companies from 165 countries and regions, and 135,858 trade participants.

Many campaigns have been launched in the recent months to promote the Egyptian tourism sector as Egypt participated in the FIT International Tourism Fair of Latin America which took place in the Argentinean capital, Buenos Aires, from October 28-31, 2017, to promote Egyptian tourism in the Latin American market.

Furthermore, a three-week campaign promoting Egyptian tourism in the Italian market started May 29, 2017.

Egypt has been suffering from a severe decline in tourists' numbers since 2011 Revolution that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak. The crash of Russian jet in Sharm El Sheikh in 2015 had also a negative effect on the country's tourism activities.

Recently, the country’s “This is Egypt” promotional campaign has won Best Tourism Promotional Video in the Middle East at the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in China in September 2017, beating 63 other contestants.
