ADDIS ABABA - 27 Sep 2017: The African Union Commission (AUC) welcomed on Wednesday the US administration's decision to lift travel ban on Sudan, hoping of full normalization of ties between the two countries.

In a statement, the commission said "the African Union Commission (AUC) welcomes the removal of the travel ban on Sudan by the Government of the United States of America and looks forward to the full normalization of relations between the two countries."

“While sharing the same concerns with the United States of America on the threat of terrorism and violent extremism, the AUC believes that cooperation and meaningful engagement are vital in shaping a common response to this very demanding global challenge,” the statement added.

"The commission is shocked at the imposition of a travel ban on the Republic of Chad, in particular, given its important role in the fight against terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin, Northern Mali, and the Sahel," the statement said.
