Two Italian tourists, 14 Egyptians rescued in Wadi Hitan after losing way

FAYYOUM - 27 July 2017: An environment protection team rescued two Italian tourists who lost their way in Fayyoum's Wadi Hitan, an official said on Thursday.

The car of the two tourists broke down in Wadi Hitan desert, the head of Fayyoum natural protectorate, Amr Heiba, said.

The Environment Ministry's operations room received a distress signal from Thuraya mobile - which is a regional mobile satellite phone provider.

Moving on the spot after locating the tourists, the rescue team managed to reach the lost tourists in 15 minutes.

On their way back, they found 14 Egyptian visitors who also went astray and their microbus was stuck in sand.

The team helped them to unstuck their microbus and offered all needed assistance to them.
