CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Having reached the middle of the year, Bleacher Report decided to make a list of the top 5 players from Europe’s top 5 leagues that scored the most goals for their country and club until this time of the year.

In first place comes the Portuguese goal scorer Cristiano Ronaldo who managed to score a total of 33 goals for both Portugal and Real Madrid. Ronaldo helped his team win the Champions League for the second consecutive time along with securing the Spanish league title. With his national team, Ronaldo was able to make Portugal reach the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup before being knocked out by Chile through penalties.

The Argentinean attacking player and Barcelona icon Lionel Messi came in second by scoring 32 goals with both FC Barcelona and the Argentinean National team. Messi lifted the Copa Del Rey (Spanish Cup) with FC Barcelona in 2017 after winning 3-1 against Deportivo Alaves in the final. Argentina is now 5th with Messi in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers standings.

Tottenham Hotspur and England’s National team striker Harry Kane sits in third having scored 28 goals in 2017. Tottenham came in second this year in the Premier League after the champion’s Chelsea. England is first in group F with 14 points after playing 6 matches in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.

In fourth comes Bayern Munich and Poland’s striker Robert Lewandowski after scoring 27 goals in 2017. Lewandowski won the Bundesliga (German League) title with Bayern Munich this season and was able to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League before being knocked out from Real Madrid who later went to win the title. Poland is first with 16 points after playing 6 matches in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.

In 5th place comes Paris Saint-Germain and the Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani who was able to score 26 goals in 2017. Cavani managed to win the French Cup with Paris Saint-Germain this season after winning 1-0 against Angers. Uruguay is in third place after playing 14 matches in the World Cup qualifiers.

Barcelona and Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez and Chelsea’s Spanish striker Diego Costa failed to make it in Bleacher reports list of the top 5 goal scorers in 2017.
