CAIRO – 27 June 2017: One of the icons of the Spanish football Raul Gonzalez turns 40 today on June 27, 2017.

Raul Gonzalez who started his career at Real Madrid’s rivals Atletico Madrid. However, Real Madrid’s icon left Atletico Madrid following the decision of the Club’s owner Jesus Gil to close the academy in order to save the costs of the club. After joining “Los Blancos” Real Madrid Raul scored 13 goals in just 7 games.

On October 13, 1994 Raul made his debut with Real Madrid’s first team at La Romareda Stadium against Real Zaragoza. Raul managed to score his first goal with the team after a week of his debut against Atletico Madrid in a match that ended 4-2 to Los Blancos.

Real Madrid’s symbol Raul played his first Champions League match when he was 18 years old. Raul was part of the team that won Real Madrid’s seventh Champions League title on 1998 against Juventus Turin. The goal scorer machine won the Champions League another two times on 2000 and 2002 where he was able to score in both finals.

The number 7 holder, Raul left Real Madrid after 16 years of wearing the Club’s shirt to go on short journey to Germany, where he played at Schalke 04, then traveled to Qatar where he played at Al Sadd, and then decide to hang his boots at New York Cosmos after playing 1 season there.

He has won many titles throughout his career. Raul won 3 European Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 1 European Super Cup, 6 Spanish League Titles (La Liga), and 4 Spanish Super Cups
