CAIRO –22 June 2017: Strikers are remembered for their goals, but in the 1998 World Cup match between France and Croatia when the strikers had no solutions, a French player came from the back to put an end to the tragedy.

Stade de France hosted the big event, France faced the underdogs Croatia and there were high expectations that France would play in the World Cup final. France’s squad of future stars was ready to end the Croatian adventure but the first half ended without a goal, French fans waited for the second half to open up the score but Croatian striker Davor Suker scored an unexpected goal just one minute after the second half began.

The French were looking for a savior: they looked for Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet but the hero of the night was totally unexpected, the man who never scored for France before that day; Lilian Thuram. Thuram scored the equalizer just one minute after Croatia’s goal to calm the worried fans. Not content equalizing, Thuram scored a second goal and clinched the match for France with the final score being 2-1.

What a day to score your first two goals with your national team, Thuram.
