CAIRO – 18 June 2017: During a TV interview on Friday, Dani Alves, right back for Italian club Juventus, called Argentinean legend Diego Armando Maradona a bad role model and questions the comparison with Lionel Messi.

In the Brazilian Interactive Sports channel interview, Alves said, “Messi has an incredible, unquestionable gift… TV and newspapers wants to compare, but how to compare Messi with Maradona?”

While Maradona has been considered one of the greatest footballers and won the Player of the 20th Century award from FIFA, the thirty-four-year old Brazilian dismisses Maradona’s World Cup hand goal.

When talking about Maradona using his hand to a score a goal against England in the 1985 World Cup he said, “With all due respect to Maradona, it would not be a pride for me to say that I won a World Cup making a hand goal… for me, as a sportsman, I would not set that example for young people.”

Alves played alongside Lionel Messi in Barcelona from 2009 to 2016 and participated together in the success of Barcelona winning three Champions League titles in 2009, 2011 and 2015.
