CAIRO – 14 June 2017: A cancer relapse has forced 22-year-old Yeray Alvarez to leave the Spanish Under 21 squad. Alvarez is scheduled to begin a new treatment, The Mirror reported Monday.

Alvarez was preparing to play with the Spanish squad for the upcoming Under 21 European cup in Poland. The tournament begins on June 16 and continues through June 30. Spain will lose his services in the tournament and Athletic Bilbao may lose him in the start of the Spanish League’s season, The Mirror’s report added.

Alvarez commented his cancer relapse on Instagram, saying, “When you think you have toppled it, it gets up and it comes back to hit you, but don't worry I'm going to win this battle with the support of all the people and if I have to topple it again, I will do so and I will get up 1,000 times more.”

Alvarez had surgery in December 2016 after finding a tumor in his right testicle. He returned to play in the Spanish league after 2 months.
