CAIRO – 13 September 2019: Egypt International, Mohamed Elneny, revealed on Friday that his German teammate at Arsenal, Mesut Ozil, advised him to move to Turkish giants, Besiktas at the summer transfer market.

“I spoke with him before my decision to come to Besiktas and he advised me to join the club. Mesut knows the country very well. After I completed my move to the club, I called him and invited him here.” Elneny said on Friday.

Elneny completed a one-year loan to Besiktas from Arsenal after Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, announced that he will not count on the Egyptian player this season.

Elneny added “Mesut is an amazing man. He is a person that I really care about. We had wonderful moments together at Arsenal.”

Elneny was a key player under Arsenal’s former manager, Arsene Wenger, who signed him from Basel FC in Switzerland in 2016.

Elneny failed to establish himself as a key player at the club since the arrival of Unai Emery who succeeded Wenger at the manager’s position.

Emery advised Elneny last week to leave the club to search for another challenge as he is not willing to count on him this season.

The Egyptian midfielder’s journey with football started when he was 6 as he was recruited by scouts of the Egyptian giants, Al-Ahly.

Elneny defended the red shirt for almost a decade before the club released him which was a turning point in his life as he joined Arab Contractors.

Three years later, Elneny was a first team member and started his journey with football as a professional.
