CAIRO – 11 June 2017: European national teams have been playing a lot of football matches during the past few days for the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers that will be held in Russia.

These are the recent matches played and the top three teams in each group, according to a report from Livescore. Each group has six teams: the first position in each group qualifies automatically to the World Cup. The eight best runner-ups enter playoffs and the four winners of a home and away leg qualify to the World Cup.

In the first group, France played Sweden on June 9 and Sweden managed to seal a precious 2-1 victory in the last minute of the game. Sweden is first in the group with 13 points, then comes France in second with 13 points and Netherlands in third with 10 points.

In the second group, Switzerland and Portugal both managed to seal three points in the last match they played on June 9 against Faeroe Islands and Latvia, respectively. Switzerland is first with 18 points, Portugal is second with 15 points and Hungary comes third with 7 points.

In the third group, Germany had the highest score in this round by smashing San Marino 7-0. Germany is first and so far undefeated with 18 points, Northern Ireland sits in second with 13 points and the Czech Republic comes in third with 9 points.

In the fourth group, Serbia is first with 11 points, and then comes Ireland with 11 points and Wales in third with 7 points. The fourth group is expected to play on the evening of June 11.

In the fifth group, Poland managed to win 3-1 and became first with 16 points. Montenegro comes in second with 10 points followed by Denmark in third place with 10 points.

The sixth group saw a dramatic ending to the match between England and Scotland, when Scotland scored the their second goal in the 89th minute before England equalized the score in the stoppage time and ended the match with a draw 2-2.

In the seventh group Spain comes first with 13 points followed by Italy in second, also with 13 points, and Israel in third with 9 points. The matches of the seventh group are expected to be Sunday night.

The eighth group saw Belguim beating Estonia 2-0. Belguim is first with 16 points followed by Greece who are second with 12 points and Bosnia in third with 11 points.

In the ninth and last group Croatia are first with 13 points, Iceland are second with 10 points and Ukraine are third with 8 points.

Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo are the top goal scorers of the World Cup qualifiers so far with 11 goals each.
