CAIRO - 12 July 2019: Algeria striker Baghdad Bounedjah explained why he was very upset when he faced Cote d'Ivoire on Thursday evening in the quarter-finals of the African Nations Cup.

Algeria beat Cote d'Ivoire by penalties shoot-out 4-3 after the full time has ended by a 1-1 draw.

During the game, at the 2nd minute of the second half, Algeria was leading the game 1-0 and earned a penalty. But, Baghdad Bounedjah missed the penalty and later has been substituted by Islam Solimani.

"The fans have moved my heart and, God willing, I will make it in the semi-finals and do my utmost to please our fans," said Bounedjah.

"I was very scared, because if we lost, I would be responsible for this after missing the penalty kick," he said.

"We missed a few chances against Côte d'Ivoire, who were able to decide the game for us in the 90 minutes," he said.

Algeria are set to face Nigeria on Sunday at Cairo Stadium in the AFCON Semi-final.
