CAIRO - 11 July 2019: Nigeria’s coach, Gernot Rohr, revealed that he was working on using South Africa’s condition after facing Egypt in the 16th round.

Nigeria beat South Africa 2-1 in the 2019 AFCON Quarter-finals on Wednesday at Cairo stadium.

“South Africa played a very tough game against Egypt; it was impossible for them to play similar game only four days after their victory. So, I worked on using their condition to our favor,” Rohr said after the game.

“We were lucky to win in the final minutes,” he added.

Many Egyptian fans attended the game as they bought match tickets earlier before Egypt’s elimination. Egypt would play in the same day against Nigeria but South Africa beat the Pharaohs.

“It’s amazing to get support from the Egyptian fans. We played good matches in our group and in the 16th round at Alexandria, that’s why we earned their support,” Rohr said.

Nigeria reached the quarter finals after defeating Cameroon 3-2 at Alexandria Stadium.

Nigeria are waiting for the winner from Algeria vs Ivory Coast match scheduled on Thursday at Suez stadium.

Odion Ighalo has been one of Nigeria’s best players at the tournament, having scored three goals.
