CAIRO – 8 July 2019: Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, sent a message of apology on Sunday to the Egyptian fans following the team’s socking loss to South Africa in the round of 16 clash at 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

“I am so sad after our early exit from the tournament. We wanted to continue till the end and win the title for our loyal fans. I want to thank you for your support and I promise you that we will learn from our mistakes to avoid them in the future.” Salah tweeted on Sunday.

The Egyptian fans packed Cairo Stadium on Sunday to support Salah and his teammates against South Africa.

Egypt failed to dominate the game against the South African players who stopped all the Egyptian attempts to score.

South Africa won the game 1-0 thanks to a late goal from their winger, Thembinkosi Lorch.

Following the game, Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abo Rida sacked the Egyptian national team coaching staff on the early hours of Sunday.

Abo Rida, as well as many board members, resigned from their position.
