CAIRO, 04 July 2019: Egypt did not face South Africa in many official matches, but each confrontation has a special character and wrote history, 11 games, including 4 official matches.

The first official match was in the 1996 African Cup of Nations, the tournament organized by South Africa, was in the group stage and the Egyptian team won 1-0 thanks to Ahmed Al Kass which was the reason for qualifying Egypt to the second round.

The second encounter marked the fourth star on our team jersey as we beat the Bavana Bavana boys 2-0 in the 1998 AFCON Final, held in Burkina Faso.

Overall, South Africa won six games, lost four and tied with Egypt in one. However, in the official games, the Egyptian team has always prevailed by two wins, a draw and a single defeat. In the AFCON, Egypt prevailed at both times.

The Groups stage of the African Nations Cup has ended on Tuesday night and the competing teams were determined to participate in the 16th round.

The AFCON 16th round launches on Friday and extends till next Monday. The quarter-finals will start on Wednesday & Thursday. While the Final game will be on July 19th.

The third place from Group A, B, D and F qualified for the 16th round. They are Democratic Republic of the Congo, Guinea, South Africa and Benin respectively.

Egypt have to take a tough route for the Final match. If we beat South African, the Pharaohs will face Nigeria and Cameroon. And then Algeria will be, possibly, waiting for us in the semi-final.
All the matches will be played at 6 pm, followed by the second game at 9 pm.
