CAIRO – 2 July 2019: Morocco midfielder, Karim Al Ahmadi, will be fit for Morocco’s round of 16 clash, Morocco medical staff said on Tuesday.

Al Ahmadi suffered an injury during the game against South Africa and he was replaced by Youssef Aït Bennasser.

Morocco defeated South Africa 1-0 on Monday night thanks to a late goal from Mubarak Boussoufa.

“In each game we want to give our best. It was hard in the first half but we got better. In AFCON there are no promises. We haven’t beaten South Africa in long time, but we deserved victory today.” Boussoufa said after the game.

Morocco played in Group D alongside Namibia, South Africa and Ivory Coast.

The Lions of Atlas established themselves as one of the main contenders to win the competition after achieving three straight wins over Namibia, Ivory Coast and South Africa respectively.

Herve Renard, Morocco coach, spoke after the game, saying “It’s too early to speak about who will be crowned at the end. There might be surprises and we have to prepare more.”

The competition takes place with the participation of 24 teams in six groups for the first time in the history of the African competition.
