CAIRO, 2 July 2019: Egypt qualified for the 16th round of the 2019 African Cup of Nations, leading the first group with 9 points, achieving the full mark in the tournament which is held from June 21 to July 19.

The Pharaohs wait for the third place from Groups C, D and E. It’s expected to play next Saturday at the Cairo International Stadium at 9 p.m. CLT.

But first we need to know what are the possibilities of the 16th round, which are three:

1- Egypt vs Kenya
In Group C, Algeria thrashed all their opponents, lead this group with 9 points. They are followed by Senegal with 6 points and then Kenya with three points. But Kenya’s goal difference is (-4) as they scored 3 goals but conceded 7 goals. So, their chances to qualify from this group are still on the table. If only no one qualified from Group E, which includes Tunisia, Angola, Mali & Mauritania.

2- Egypt vs South Africa
Second case depends also on the matches of Group E. If Tunisia defeated Mauritania & Mali beat Angola, so Egypt will directly face Kenya or South Africa from Group D, which goal difference is (-1). That’s because there will be no qualifier, as a third-placed, from Tunisia’s group.

3- Egypt vs Tunisia
Last case, which neither the Egyptians & Tunisians want, will happen only in one condition. If Tunisia ended their match against Mauritania with a draw, and Angola defeated Mali; in that case Tunisia will qualify as a third-placed with goal difference (0), which is better than Kenya (-4) and South Africa (-1).

However, in any case Egypt have to face any opponent in order to continue the journey to the precious title. No matter which team we’ll face, but the matter is how to qualify amid the doubts of the Egyptian football fans.
