CAIRO_26 June 2019: CAF Referees' Committee announced on Tuesday that South African Referee, Victor Games, will take charge of Egypt clash against DR Congo at the second round of Group A at 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gomes, who started officiating on the international level in 2011, is one of the best referees in the continent.

Gomes officiated two games for Egypt national team and both of them ended with a victory for the Egyptian team.

The first game came in 2017 against Uganda during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the game ended with a 1-0 victory for Egypt while the second game ended with a 3-2 victory for Egypt against Tunisia during 2019 Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifiers.

Congo national team suffered an unexpected 2-0 defeat at the opening game against Uganda and they need a positive result against Egypt to avoid an early exit from the tournament.

Egyptian veteran defender, Ahmed Hegazi, is expected to start the game against Congo wearing a protective mask following the head injury he suffered during the opening game.

Egypt and Uganda share the top at Group A, 3 points each, while Zimbabwe and DR Congo stays at the bottom.

This year’s edition of Africa Cup of Nations is considered the biggest Africa Cup of Nations ever with 24 teams.
