CAIRO – 20 May 2019: Zamalek lost 1-0 to Moroccan side, RS Berkane, at CAF Confederation Cup Final first leg on Sunday night in Morocco.

Zamalek players were on the verge of returning to Egypt with a draw but a late goal from Berkane’s Togolese striker, Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba, secured the victory for the home side.

Zamalek entered the game with a 4-3-3 formation as Mahmoud Alaa, Mohamed Abdelghany, Hamdi Naguez and Abdallah Gomaa formed a solid defensive line that broke all the hosts’ attempts to score during the whole game.

Zamalek’s third choice goalkeeper, Omar Salah, started the game following the suspension of the team’s first choice goalkeeper, Mahmoud Gennesh, and the injury of the second choice goalkeeper, Emad El Sayed.

Salah saved many clear chances from Berkan’s strikers and he was the best player from the Egyptian side.

Zamalek’s attacking line of Omar El Said, Mahmoud Kahraba, Youssef Obama and Ahmed Zizo had clear chances during the game but they failed to convert these chances to goals.

Zamalek fans, who are expected to pack Borg El Arab Stadium at the second leg, hopes to see their players lift the cup and put an end to a 17 year drought from African titles.
