CAIRO – 6 March 2019: Real Madrid lost to Dutch team, Ajax, 4-1 at home on Tuesday night at the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg and they are knocked out of the competition which they won their title for three consecutive years.

Real Madrid entered the game as favorites after a 2-1 victory over the Dutch team in Amsterdam and needed a draw or a 1-0 loss to win direst qualification to the quarter finals.

The Dutch team victory happened thanks to four goals from Hakim Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone while Marco Asencio scored Madrid’s only goal.

The Dutch team shocked the Real Madrid fans who hoped to see their team bouncing back after a dark week in which they lost two games at home to Barcelona at Spanish Cup and the League.

Real Madrid’s suffering started on Wednesday February 27 when they lost 3-0 at home to Barcelona at the Spanish Cup and they were knocked out of the competition.

Three days later they lost again to Barcelona 1-0 and they became 12 points behind the League leaders, Barcelona with 9 games remaining.

For many fans, it is the end of an era in which Real Madrid dominated Europe by winning three Champions League titles.
