EFA postpones Egyptian Cup matches

CAIRO – 27February 2019: The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Tuesday that the Egyptian Cup games are postponed for security reasons and the new dates will be decided later, according to Head of competitions committee at the Egyptian Football Association (EFA),Amer Hussein.

Zamalek, who were supposed to face Misr El-Makassa at the quarter finals on Wednesday, revealed on Tuesday that they are against the decision, while Al-Ahly and Pyramids accepted the decision.

Al-Ahly will face Pyramids at the round of 16 and their game was scheduled on Thursday.

EFA decided earlier to replace Al-Ahly clash against Pyrmaids at the league with their cup tie and Al-Ahly opposed the decision and revealed that they are open to all the possibilities including withdrawal from the competition.

On the other hand, Pyramids and EFA were sticking to playing the cup tie on time.

This season witnessed a fierce rivalry between Al-Ahly, Zamalek and Pyramids on and off the pitch.

Zamalek are leading the Egyptian League title with 52 points from 21 games and they are four points ahead of Al-Ahly and Pyramids.

Al-Ahly gained 48 points from 21 games while Pyramids gained the same points but played three more games.
