Cairo, 21 February 2019: The Egyptian Football Association issued a statement in which it stressed the need to abide by licenses as a prerequisite for the participation of Egyptian clubs in the African Championships.

The statement came as follow:

"The Egyptian Football Association addressed the clubs of the Egyptian Premier League to ensure that the licensing procedures granted to them are not violated as a prerequisite for their renewal, under which these licenses give the clubs the right to participate in the African Clubs Championships."

“The Egyptian Football Association based on Article 9-1 (standards), in addition to the recognition signed by clubs in this regard, including the obligation to participate in competitions organized by the Association especially the Egyptian League and Egypt’s Cup.”

EFA’s statement came as a response to Al-Ahly’s statement in which they refused to play against Pyramids FC in Egypt’s Cup instead of the Egyptian league. Many explained Al Ahly’s statement as a sign of withdrawal from Egypt’s Cup.

Al Ahly issued a statement confirming its full commitment not to change the schedule of the league and cup matches issued by the EFA on January 7.

It’s worth to mention that the Egyptian League is set to end next August after the end of the African Cup of Nations scheduled on June 21st.
