CAIRO – 23 January 2019: Egypt Football Association president, Hany Abo Rida, revealed on Tuesday the Egyptian cities that will host the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

“Port Said, Suez and Ismailia will host the tournament alongside Cairo and Alexandria,” Abo Rida said.

Abo Rida denied rumors saying that Ismailia will be excluded because of the fans’ riot during Ismaily's clash against Club African at the CAF Champions League when the match was abandoned.

The president commented, “We will not punish Ismailia and the passionate football fans there because of their actions in one single game.”

Ismailia was one of the cities that hosted the 2006 African Cup of Nations alongside Cairo, Alexandria and Port Said.

Abo Rida added, “We take into acount the high temperature we expect in June and the facilities around the stadium not only the pitch condition.”

The CAF Executive Committee announced on Tuesday, January 8, that Egypt will host the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) matches.

Egypt won the rights to host the tournament after being selected over South Africa.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon. However, Cameroon was stripped of hosting the tournament for serious delays in preparations.
