CAIRO – 19 December 2018: Karim Abdel Gawad reestablished himself as one of the top squash players in the world after achieving the Black Ball Squash championship title in Cairo earlier in December.

“It was really tough to come through in Cairo, but I am very proud to have prevailed and done so in front of my home fans,” Abdel Gawad told PSA World Tour.

Al-Ahly Squash player, Abdel Gawad, defeated his Egyptian fellow, Ali Farag, 3-1 at the final to achieve the Black Ball Squash championship title.

Abdel Gawad has had an amazing run in the tournament defeating World No.1, Mohamed el-Shorbagy and World No. 4, Tarek Moamen, at quarter finals and semi finals, respectively.

Abdel Gawad added "To have beaten players of the quality of Mohamed, Tarek and Ali in successive rounds and to have been able to cope with the physical demands placed on me gave me massive confidence.”

Abdel Gawad reached a career-high world ranking of World No. 1 in May 2017 and he hopes to keep on his amazing form after a frustrating start in 2018.

Abdel Gawad added “We have two massive tournaments in America with ToC and the PSA World Championships and my target is to be the best I can be in both tournaments and see where that takes me.”
