CAIRO – 11 December 2018: Al-Ahly's football director, Sayed Abdel Hafiz, revealed on Monday that Malian defender, Salif Coulibaly, will stay with the club, putting an end to all rumors saying that the defender will leave the club in January.

“It is just a rumor. I met with Salif and told him that he will have an essential role in the team in the coming period,” AbdelHafiz told press on Monday.

Coulibaly joined Al-Ahly last July and since then he established himself as a key player at Al-Ahly squad.

The defender played a great role in Al-Ahly’s run at the CAF Champions League and scored two goals at the group stage against Township Rollers and Kampala City.

Al-Ahly fans blamed the team’s defense of Coulibaly and Saad Samir for the CAF Champions League title loss against Esperance.
Al-Ahly achieved a 3-1 victory at the first leg in Alexandria but they suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the second leg in Tunisia to lose the final for the second consecutive year.

Al-Ahly players reconciled their fans after their poor results in November as they achieved their third victory in a row at the league.

Al-Ahly defeated Al-Gaish 2-0 on Sunday night thanks to two goals from their striker, Marwan Mohsen.
